Surveillance cameras are beneficial for enhancing safety and security, but they need to be used responsibly. If you want to take the safety of your homes, offices and work spaces to another level, CCTV setups can assist you in that.

  • First and foremost, always keep in mind the main focus points of your area which require survellience. These areas commonly are entry / exit points, corridors, stairs, boundary walls, children playing area, parking lots, etc
  • Depending on the areas that require survellience, you should secondly know the number of cameras that are required. This number can be used to determine the budget as well as the channels of your DVR or NVR & other peripheral devices. For eg., 8 cameras would require 8 channel recorder.
  • Thirdly, keeping above factors and your area in mind, you should decide if you require an HD or an IP camera setup.
  • Another important factor is the number of days for which you want the footage to be saved in your DVR/NVR. To get an approximate idea of the Hard disk storage capacity required, use our Hard disk storage calculator.
  • Firstly, they both work on different technologies. In IP cameras, data transmisson from cameras to recorder is done in the form of digital signals whereas, in HD cameras, data transmission is done in the form of analog signals.
  • In an IP camera setup, the video processing takes places at the camera end, so, the transmission of data can be done over larger distances without losing quality as compared to HD camera setup.
  • IP cameras are costly up-front but they have lesser maintenance, hence, are cheaper in the long run.

By default, both NVR and DVR are designed to overwrite the data in Hard disk. e.g., in a camera setup which stores data for 20 days starting from 1st of any month, the recording of 21st day will be saved after erasing the subsequent recording of 1st day automatically.

The number of cameras you require in your setup will primarily decide the type of NVR or DVR in your setup. Other factors like AI, motion-sensing, 4K resolution, bandwidth required (in case of NVR) also play an important role in this. To get an approximate idea of the required bandwidth, use our Bandwidth calculator.
